Seattle Center Coliseum Renovation
Designed by Cole Akers & Robert Rhynard
In 2018, The 56 yr.old Seattle Center Coliseum was renovated to accommodate the new professional sports expansion teams, Seattle Kraken hockey, Seattle Storm WNBA team and larger performance events. Third year students were given a challenge to design a new plan on the existing site, along with parameters and goals for Net Zero 'Green Building' efficiency.
Students ambitiously researched and modeled the paths and angles of the sun throughout the year which was used to design the various slopes of the roof planes to accommodate solar panels. This provided for maximum efficiency to capture the random days of sunlight in the Pacific Northwest.
